Visual Poetry: in between personal trauma and collective healing.

This series is based on a poem I wrote in a moment of deep sadness and honest truth. The 44 statements originate from personal trauma but reveal larger truths about how we feel in the realm of identity, sexuality and how we treat each other as a society. By making these statements accessible through various means (print, animation, etc.) the project becomes an ongoing exploration of content and context, ultimately connecting us on a deeper, emotional and human level.

It makes me cry when I think about what others went through. (Visual Poetry Series, 2019)

By placing the poem in public space, the poem becomes a gesture of empathy and a place to reflect on oneself and connect to struggles of others.

Each statement is printed on a single sheet of blue paper, referencing “TRYING TO REMEMBER THE COLOR OF THE SKY ON THAT SEPTEMBER MORNING” (2014), by Spencer Finch. There is no direct order in which the poem has to be read, therefore creating a modular, visual system subtly suggesting the poem to the public.
